What is the best (health and personality) of the small dog breeds?

I can’t have anything as big as a cocker. It needs to be able to fit through a dog door 12″ by 8″.
I am getting a dog, but I don’t know which breed is best? I need something the size of an american cocker spaniel or smaller.
NO COCKER SPANIELS!! TOO BIG

    Yorkshire Terriers! They are just so sweet. However if you want a small one your going to have to really look. Mine is about 4 lbs and like a football. Anyways, they are really good guard dogs too. They let you know when someone is coming in the house by barking. Alll in all they are the perfect dog!!!

    Miniature poodles and schnauzers should be more than able to fit throw that dog door they are also very sweet and loving dogs.

    The pack leader status and dont need consistant grooming like some other toy breeds one downside is the pack leader status and squirrels because hes technically spaniel another is small dog syndrome so you work mine doesnt chew anything even.
